Very Involved Mom (VIM) was asked to help with our Relief Society's Book Club a few months ago. VIM was to approve the literature presented at the meetings and another sister was to set up locations and potential reviewers and their books. To make it easy for the summer, we thought the Relief Society could just read the Book of Mormon and then review it in September. Well... when the R.S. president announced the plans in Ward Welfare Meeting... the ward leadership wanted to make it an ENTIRE ward challenge! They asked VIM to put together a reading chart. With the help of Hard Working Dad, the Facebook Book of Mormon challenge and the calculator, VIM came up with these charts "Reading by Page Numbers" and "Reading by Chapters" to help the ward pace themselves throughout the summer.
Our family is currently on page 53 or the first chapter of 2 Nephi! We are only 33 pages or 12 chapters behind where we should be.... but we figure just as long as we're making an effort, our family will be blessed. On Sunday, one of the speakers suggested we read the chapter headings. Then as families, we could discuss each chapter briefly. We'll see what happens. For now, we'll keep reading the chapters. We're always AMAZED by how the flock's behavior improves when we consistently read the scriptures as a family.
VIM was also asked to perhaps have a culminating activity for the Summer of Scriptures (S.O.S.). Remember, she's also the Ward Activities Coordinator. She has the summer to think about it.
We have done this before. A great way to catch up is to listen to the scriptures on CD while following along in the book. It goes faster and so you can get a few extra chapters done here and there.
ReplyDeleteI love that idea! As we travel during the summer, scripture CDs would be great! Thanks Becky!
